Crew News

We are happy to announce that the majority of last years crew will be returning for this season. The winter activities of the crew from 2007 is as varied as the crew itself. In case you have never met them, the lodge is filled with professionals from all walks of life. Ask around and you will talk to engineers, bankers, authors, nautical experts, and even a world-renowned expert on superstitions.

Fred Wright - Fred returned to his home in Oregon, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. After a short rest, it was off to Jamaica with other members of his family for his daughter Hollys' wedding in October. Then it was back to Oregon and his winter project of building a gazebo so he and his wife Nancy can spend some quiet time looking at the ocean.

Of course Fred has to spend some time flying, he recently joined the local chapter of the Civil Air Patrol and has spent time flying his C-172.

Another vacation was in order, so he and Nancy took off for New Orleans and Mardi Gras topped off with a cruise vacation from New Orleans to several Central American countries. Now they are back in Oregon, enjoying the spring and Fred is anxious to get 87 Charlie ready for another season at Yes Bay Lodge.

Some old news that needs an update! We are all anxiously waiting for news from North Dakota, it seems that last years romance at the Lodge has turned into wedding bells! YBL staffers Loni Boehm and Andy Snyder (Whiplash) announced their wedding date, May 17th along a wild river in North Dakota. They will be off to a secret warm location for their honeymoon before joining us at the Lodge for another summer season! Everyone wishes them the best and we all can't wait to congratulate them in person.

Dewey Smith & Selina Pollino - Dewey and Selina have had a busy winter. Most of the time has been spent in and around Ketchikan. Dewey has been doing work for Yes Bay Lodge as well as helping build some new projects at Clover Pass and Silver King. Earlier this winter he spent several weeks at the Lodge helping Kevin Johnson turn the gift shop into a work out room and several other projects around the Lodge. Of course they reserved some time for hunting and managed to get a few deer and also went goose and duck hunting around Spacious Bay. In October Dewey and Selina took a trip down to Washington State to visit family, with a ferry ride back with their winter gear and Dewey's truck.

Selina has been working at Jeremiah's, a bar in Ketchikan. She has also been practicing her karaoke, you'll have to ask her about her special YouTube performance, from what we hear, it is memorable to say the least!

Their latest adventure involved another trip down to Washington State for a skiing vacation. They traveled down to Steven's Pass at the Summit, which is located about 2 hours north of Seattle. They spent four days snowboarding, they got 10 inches of fresh powder on the first day and Selina says "the skiing was fantastic!" "Day two was bluebird skies and spring like skiing" and they had a great time. Dewey and his snowboard ripping up the powder is a sight to behold. The remainder of their time was spent visiting friends and family, we understand there were a couple party nights to remember, but we'll have to wait and ask for those stories when we all get to the Lodge!

Kicker - Ron Chimenti - We're not sure what Ron has been up to this winter, but he has managed to let us know he will be returning this year for another season, actually his wife Cheryl let us know.... For those of you unfortunate enough to have fished with Ron and had to listen to his caddy remarks, you can rest assured that he will be even more old and cranky this year! Always a delight to be around and sure to provide plenty of entertainment we are all looking forward to his return, we think!

I know he spent some time hunting and fishing at his home in Tillamook, Oregon this winter and from several phone conversations he wasn't sure he was going to return, however, his wife Cheryl called to let us know that she was looking forward to another quiet summer without Ron around to bother her, so we're not sure if Ron was the one making the decision, but we know he will be a barrel of laughs around the Lodge this summer.

Yes, if you liked 2007, you are going to love 2008. The fishing promises to be off the charts, the lodge is tuned and ready to go, and the food, oh the food, will be better than ever. Bring a bigger belt for the flight home.

We still have a couple of rooms available for the king salmon run, but if you want the season’s best fishing visit us in July and August. There is unanimous agreement amongst the guides that this year’s halibut catch will set new records. Don’t miss it.

Until then, tight lines and following seas,
